Global Citizen Festival aims to engage citizens to end extreme poverty by 2030, with a little help from some celebrity friends.

The eighth annual Global Citizen Festival in New York City, which aims to eradicate extreme poverty through advocacy and activism, just announced their star-studded lineup.

Scheduled to perform on September 28 in Central Park is rock band Queen & Adam Lambert, Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, OneRepublic, H.E.R. and Carole King.

Actor Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-lee Furness will return to host the festival. Appearing as cohosts are Matt Bomer, Rachel Bosnahan, Elvis Duran, Taraji P. Henson, Rami Malek, Bill Nye, Joy Reid and Forest Whitaker. There will also be special performances from French Montana, Tony winner Ben Platt, Jon Batiste and Stay Human.

In the past, such mega stars as Janet Jackson, Ed Sheeran and Stevie Wonder have headlined the festival. The even is truly global and has been held in other cities throughout the world such as London, Berlin, and Montreal. Last year Beyoncé and Jay-Z headlined a festival in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to the organization, the festival “encourages global citizens to power the movement to end extreme poverty, calling on world leaders to fight diseases including HIV and AIDS and polio, empower women and girls, combat plastic pollution and provide quality education for all.”

Global Citizen is a nonprofit organization that is “a movement of engaged citizens who are using their collective voice to end extreme poverty by 2030”, according to their website. Since its founding in 2011, Global Citizen has attracted the resources and efforts of influential leaders, valued at over $37 billion and potentially affecting the lives of more than 2.25 billion people by 2030. A total of 650 million people’s lives have already been impacted by their efforts.

Recently, the organization announced an upcoming star-studded National Geographic docu-series, “Activate: The Global Citizen Movement“, which will illustrate the organization’s efforts to eradicate poverty and fight for justice. It will feature stories such as rapper Common fighting for criminal justice reform; Chopra Jonas campaigning to break down barriers to girls’ education, and actor Hugh Jackman working on the annual Global Citizen Festival.

Per usual, admission to this year’s festival is free; fans can earn their tickets by completing various community service acts, via the Global Citizen App. This year, there are four mission-driven themes to work towards: health, education, gender equality and the environment.
