United States Congressman Quotes Mein Kampf On House Floor

…He and his staffers invoking as much, while using the outwardly anti-Semitic Mein Kampf in an attempt to strengthen his point is negligent ignorance at best and open propaganda at worst.

On Monday United States Congressman Morris Jackson “Mo” Brooks (R-AL-5th) read from Adolf Hitler’s autobiography, Mein Kampf on the House floor, which can be found at the bottom of this article. Brooks was moved into action after special counsel Robert Mueller submitted his investigation without calling for further indictments against President Donald Trump or his advisors in relation to collusion with President Vladimir Putin and his allies during the 2016 United States Presidential election.

Brooks attempted to conflate the German Nazi party with the modern Democratic party of the United States before using framing similar to President Trump, “For more than two years, socialist Democrats and their fake news media allies — CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, Washington Post, and countless others have perpetrated the biggest political lie, con, scam, and fraud in American history.”

Congressman Brooks would later continue after ignoring the over 30 indictments the Muller investigation led to, “…From the socialist, baseless, reckless, and false — big lie charges of Russian election collusion.”

Congressman Brooks Quotes Mein Kampf

After continuing falsely to state the Democratic party is socialist, Congressman Brooks continued to frame various media outlets as ‘fake news’ and repeat the phrasing along with ‘big lie’ before beginning to quote from Hitler’s Mein Kampf, who he also falsely asserted as being a socialist, when the Fascist ideology behind the Nazi party is far-right, radical, and totalitarian in nature. Brooks’ quote from Mein Kampf and his remarks immediately following are below:

“‘In the big lie, there is always a certain force of credibility because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature, and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously — even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds…they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think there may be some other explanation, end quote.’

“Who is this big lie master? That quote was in 1925 by a member of Germany’s National Socialist German Workers Party, that’s right GERMANY’S [emphasis added by Brooks] Socialist Party, more commonly knows at the Nazis. The author was socialist Adolph Hitler in his book, Mein Kampf.”

What Brooks Left Out And Falsehoods Throughout

According to AL.com Congressman Brooks used an English translation by James Murphy as the source for his reading. However, the Congressman left out the passage which immediately followed.
From time immemorial, however, the Jews have known better than any others how falsehood and calumny can be exploited. Is not their very existence founded on one great lie, namely, that they are a religious community, whereas in reality they are a race? And what a race! One of the greatest thinkers that mankind has produced has branded the Jews for all time with a statement which is profoundly and exactly true. He (Schopenhauer) called the Jew “The Great Master of Lies”. Those who do not realize the truth of that statement, or do not wish to believe it, will never be able to lend a hand in helping Truth to prevail.
Matthew Fitzpatrick and A. Dirk Moses detail the misnomer of calling the Nazi party socialist and what occurred during the ‘Night of the Long Knives’ in a 2018 article.

Under Hitler, the party looked squarely to the middle classes and farmers rather than the working class for a political base. Hitler realigned it to ensure that it was an anti-socialist, anti-liberal, authoritarian, pro-business party – particularly after the failed Beerhall Putsch of 1923. The “socialism” in the name National Socialism was a strategically chosen misnomer designed to attract working class votes where possible, but they refused to take the bait. The vast majority voted for the Communist or Social Democratic parties.

The minority anti-capitalist strand of Nazism (Strasserism) on which van Onselen fastens was eliminated well before 1934, when Gregor Strasser and the Storm Trooper (SA) leader Ernst Roehm were murdered with over eighty others in the “Night of the Long Knives.” In fact, Strasserism had already been defeated at the Bamberg Conference of 1926 when the Nazis were polling under 3% of the vote. Here, Hitler brought the dissidents back into line, denouncing them as “communists” and ruling out land expropriations and grassroots decision-making. He heightened the party’s alliance with businesses small and large, and insisted on the absolute centralisation [sic] of decision-making – the “Fuehrer (leader) Principle.”

History.com adds further context to what led up to the ‘Night of the Long Knives.’

In Germany, Nazi leader Adolf Hitler orders a bloody purge of his own political party, assassinating hundreds of Nazis whom he believed had the potential to become political enemies in the future. The leadership of the Nazi Storm Troopers (SA), whose four million members had helped bring Hitler to power in the early 1930s, was especially targeted. Hitler feared that some of his followers had taken his early “National Socialism” propaganda too seriously and thus might compromise his plan to suppress workers’ rights in exchange for German industry making the countrywar-ready.
Rep. Brooks claiming the modern Democratic party in the United States resembles the Nazi party from early 20th century Germany is false. He and his staffers invoking as much, while using the outwardly anti-Semitic Mein Kampf in an attempt to strengthen his point is negligent ignorance at best and open propaganda at worst.

Great article. I just wouldn’t publish it as an opinion piece. It’s well researched to provide context for the remarks, which people, can watch in full for themselves.

This is a great article with important context! It is odd to see that this is opinion when it appears to be entirely factual with corroborating quotes and links in the article.

As usual, this wasn’t picked up by mainstream media. It’s important the facts about this vicious attack against the Democratic Party by the very ignorant Congressman Brooks are are available for public debate.. Thank you for highlighting the full context of the quote Brooks used. In this age of sound bites and rhetoric, facts and truth matter. You laid out everything objectively and with a restraint, I wouldn’t have had. Very well done article about a very unfortunate act of actual anti-semitism committed on the floor of our Congress by Brooks.

My mistake everyone! Doh! It was actually intended to go out under analysis, both opinion and analysis fall in our editorial section and in the process of publishing the wrong one was selected. It has been moved, thanks for calling attention! 🙂
