Demi Lovato Breaks Silence After Overdose Nightmare

Singer Demi Lovato has broken her silence since she came close to death after an overdose weeks ago that had fans concerned for the pop star.

In an emotional Instagram message on Sunday, the 25-year-old singing sensation thanked God, her fans and the medics for saving her life and said she intends to focus on staying sober.

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” she wrote.

“I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” she said. “To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.”

She also thanked the staff at Cedars-Sinai who helped bring the star back from the brink.

“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” the pop star said. “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.”

In her most recent song, “Sober,” Lovato detailed her struggles with addiction. “Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore. And daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor,” she sang. “To the ones who never left me, we’ve been down this road before. I’m so sorry; I’m not sober anymore.”

Originally reported to be a heroin overdose, the star has not revealed which drug she overdosed on, but paramedics brought her back with a shot of Narcan, a drug used to fight an opioid overdose.

A source close to Lovato told People Magazine that “She understands the severity of her overdose and the recovery has been very challenging for her.

“She wants to be sober. She wants to get help. She understands that it will take a lot of work and commitment to stay healthy, but this is what she wants,” the source said.
