Putin Claims It Successfully Tested New Missile That Can Stop Nuclear Attack

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the world not to play around with his country by revealing new military technology. On Tuesday, the incumbent leader introduced the latest development in Russian air defense, which reportedly can stop nuclear attacks from striking Moscow.

According to Russian Major General Andrei Prikhodko, a new anti-satellite missile managed to destroy a test target within the required time to prevent an attack.

The latest launch came Friday just after the testing of the “Sarmat” rocket, which can carry 12 warheads up to 6,000 miles. The intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)  will replace the Soviet-era weapon “Veovoda.”

The Sarmat, dubbed the “Satan missile” by NATO, was launched at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome, a spaceport in the west of Russia. Putin boasted that the Sarmat ICBM could attack anywhere in the world.

A few days before last months Russian election, Putin included details of the defense program, including its new nuclear weapons, in his annual address.

The world worries that the nuclear test will raise tension with the West

The relationship between Russia and the West has entered its worst point after certain countries, including Canada and the U.S., expelled Russian diplomats due to allegations of Russia poisoning ex-double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

After Skripal and his daughter collapsed on a bench in Salisbury, England in early March, Moscow and London traded accusations of foul play. The U.K. believes that Russia is behind the poisoning of Skripal, while Russia states otherwise, arguing that the father-daughter pair was likely exposed to the highly-dangerous nerve agent Novichok in front of the former spy’s London home.

The origin of the poisoning still remains unsolved.

Russia retaliated to the expelling of their diplomats by in turn expelling Western diplomats from Russia. Russia has also accused the U.S. of putting pressure on its allies to follow the move of removing Russian diplomats.

Since the Skripal incident, many experts feel the Kremlin has been eager to show its military might in an attempt to deter the West from attacking Russia.

Should people anticipate World War III?

Washington has prepared measures to anticipate nuclear attacks from any direction, one measure specifically utilizing a “Doomsday plane” that serves as both an escape route for the nation’s high-ranking figures alongside serving as the command post to carry out a counterattack.

“I have a certain amount of minutes to get to that place and for that plane to get off and to a safe distance before a nuclear weapon went off here,” says General John Hyten, Commander of the U.S. Strategic Command, during an explanation of how the strategy works.

According to Japan Foreign Minister Taro Kono, North Korea is preparing for their own upcoming nuclear test.

An analysis on 38 North, a program dedicated to the analysis of events in and around North Korea, cast doubt on the minister’s claim, stating that the satellite images showing apparent preparation for a nuclear test was actually just soil that had been removed from a tunnel where the previous tests had been carried out.

Despite doubt in Kono’s claims, it is still very likely that the secretive regime of North Korea will conduct a new test the second their leader Kim Jong-Un decides to do so.

It’s reported that U.S. President Trump invited Putin to the White House in an attempt to ease tensions, but no date has been set. Trump, also famously, said he wanted to meet with Kim Jong Un one on one.
