FCC Chair Thinks 83% of Americans are Morons as He Dances To The Harlem Shake in Video
Ajit Pai, the FCC Chair made a video about the “7 Things You Can Still Do On The Internet After Net Neutrality”. The video comes across as condescending and out of touch with Americans.
83% of Americans believe in protecting net neutrality according to a University of Maryland poll, including 3 out of 4 Republicans. Yet the FCC just voted to remove regulations that protected net neutrality. What the actual results will be of the FCC’s vote, we do not know. Maybe that Maryland poll is off by 20%. That’s still 63% of Americans that want to protect internet neutrality.
So did the FCC address Americans’ concerns with a video explaining how they foresee the future of the internet after the FCC vote? Did they explain how they believe these new changes will benefit American citizens?
No. Ajit Pai, the FCC chair and the man responsible for the FCC vote, made a video about how 83% of Americans’ concerns are invalid because they can still do the Harlem Shake. Condescending much?
Ajit Pai insults the intelligence of basically everyone.
Regardless of whether you think the FCC’s decision is right or wrong, Pai’s video is an insult to the intelligence of 83% of our country. The FCC, an independent agency of the government, just voted and took action in a way that has the overwhelming majority of Americans angry and worried. A responsible action by the FCC would be to address Americans’ very real concerns with an intelligent and empathetic response. But instead Ajit Pai tells us not to worry because we can still post puppy pictures, share food pictures and do the Harlem Shake. Pai’s video suggests Americans are of so little intelligence that all they care about are such pop culture interests.
Ajit Pai may have gone to Harvard but clearly he lacks an incredible amount of social intelligence and common decency. Does he not at least have a publicist around to explain the idiocy of his video and the damage it does to his public image, or does he simply not care? Does he have so much disdain for anyone who does not think like him that he simply doesn’t care if he insults you? Perhaps he actually thinks it’s funny, as his video clearly suggests.
Maybe the head of the FCC should have at least obtained proper usage rights for the content of his own video. The Harlem Shake creators are threatening to sue the FCC for failure to obtain permission for use of their song. Maybe he’s too busy laughing at Americans and doing the Harlem Shake to care.
