After the Persian Gulf War the UN, lead by the US, imposed economic sanctions on Iraq. The effects of the sanctions are controversial. Some say they killed as many as 500,000+ Iraqi children and some dispute those numbers. In an interview with Lesley Stahl, Madeleine Albright says the lives of 500,000 children were a justifiable price to pay. Whatever the statistics are, when are we going to stop playing war games with kid’s lives? Violence begets violence. The cycle never stops; unless one side has the courage to seek a different way.
