Patriot Prayer, Antifa In Brutal Fight During Protest, Riot Police Storm Scene

The right wing group Patriot Prayer again came to blows with its arch nemesis, the left wing Antifa, at a rally in Portland, Oregon on Saturday.

Video of the incident showed members of Patriot Prayer confronting the Antifa protesters, many of whom were wearing masks, as they held American flags in their hands. It appeared that both factions came for a fight and they got one.

Patriot Prayer said it was marching as a counter to the Portland mayor’s order to police to keep a ‘hands-off’ approach to Antifa protesters who took over the city in a demonstration last week.

Video shared on Twitter showed the first punches being exchanged followed by police in riot gear flooding the scene.

The video showed what appeared to be a Patriot Prayer member delivering the first punch and Antifa responding. Both groups appeared to be armed with pepper spray, batons, knives, brass knuckles and, in some cases, guns.

Joey Gibson, the head of the Patriot Prayer group, was seen wearing a shirt that read “I Hunt Antifa Cowards.”

“Tell the cops to go in and do their job,” a member of Patriot Prayer said on a megaphone prior to the fight. “What ever happened to protect and serve?”

Patriot Prayer members justified their actions by accusing Antifa of causing a disruption in law and order, and Portland’s Mayor Ted Wheeler of doing nothing about it.

“There’s people that are running around and assaulting innocent bystanders,” Gibson told The Portland Tribune. “The mayor didn’t do a damn thing about it.”

“I’ve never seen a group so full of hate and anger in my whole life,” another member, who said his name was Charles, told The Tribune. “The message that’s been conveyed by the media that this is a racist hate group, I found to be an absolute lie.”

Antifa justified its actions by saying that they were marching for a black man who they contend was unjustifiably murdered by police.

fatally by officers in late September during a shooting that wounded two other people.

But as members of Patriot Prayer held aloft flowers, they were blocked by a large group of Antifa-affiliated members who did not allow them to place the bouquets at the memorial.

“Say his name! Patrick Kimmons!” the group chanted. The Antifa protesters were also chanting “Black Lives Matter” and “Go home Nazis” as the right wing group chanted “USA.”

Police used less than lethal force to stop the melee.

“The Portland Police Bureau’s objectives for today’s events were to provide a safe environment for everyone, including participants, non-participants and bystanders,” Danielle Outlaw, the chief of the Portland Police, said.

“Officers responded to the scene and used less lethal munitions to break up the fight and prevent further violence,” Outlaw said.
