Interview w/ Equal Citizens: How Ranked Choice Voting Can Save Our Democracy

Adam Eichen of Equal Citizens speaks with Citizen Truth about their campaign to make New Hampshire the second state in the United States to pass ranked choice voting.

The United States democracy, or republic if you prefer to call it that, is far from representative of the American people. Politicians are elected on fancy slogans and empty promises to the American people, but ultimately legislation and policies adopted are more likely to be a result of corporate or special interest lobbying than the result of voter wishes.

But there is a solution: ranked choice voting. Citizen Truth interviewed Adam Eichen of Equal Citizens which is working to pass ranked choice voting in New Hampshire.

Eichen explains the basics of what ranked choice voting is and how it actually works in an election and why ranked choice voting could be the answer to the broken American political system.

Citizen Truth would like to thank Adam Eichen and Equal Citizens for taking the time to talk to us and for the work they are doing to fix our democracy and create a political system that responds to the will of the people.

I have two reservations about RCV: 1) There are scenarios where voting for your honest favorite can be the WORST thing you can do.
    2) A candidate who expresses ideas from both major parties and has a majority of 2nd place votes is going to be first to be eliminated.

Of course, there are many places where RCV excels.

What are the scenarios where you say voting for your honest favorite is the worst thing you can do?

I’m trying to get a movement going in Arizona and would like to participate in a national campaign, should that come about.

Looking for suggestions and feedback. Thank you. William in AZ.

Hi William! I am hopeful for ranked choice voting as well, for the same reasons as you… that it can maybe help restore the “democracy” to our democracy. Thank you for the drop box article, I read it. Would you like to submit it to publish in our Peer News section?
