Major Music Stars To Join March For Our Lives, Student Gun Control Protest

Students participating in March for our Lives will have some music superstars marching with them and showing their support on stage.

The event is scheduled for March 24 in Washington D.C. to protest for more gun control laws after the deadly massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

Survivor David Hogg told CNN: “We’re gonna have four major independent women that are standing with us and walking beside us, and those are Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. They’re gonna be standing there with us and marching with us and they’re some of the few people that are really coming out and stepping up with us.”

The singers have been vocal in the media about their support for more gun control.

Last Wednesday, during the nationwide student walkout to protest gun laws, Hudson tweeted: “I am completely inspired by the students and communities standing up for the future safety of everyone and to honor those we’ve lost from senseless acts of gun violence. I stand with you and raise my voice with yours. #ENOUGH”

Cyprus also tweeted her support.

“Proud of all of you! Never give up! You are THE change!” she wrote. “So amazing to see young people take back their power and USE it!”

Lovato brought survivors from the Stoneman Douglas shooting on stage with her during the opening show of her tour last month. She also spoke about being “pro-gun control” in a recent interview with Billboard.

“There are certain pop stars who don’t speak out politically, and they have more fans,” she told the magazine. “But I’d rather speak up for the things I believe in than just be dismissive of the issues going on in our country.”

Other musical stars have their own plans to show their support. The band Fall Out Boy and rapper G-Eazy will co-headline a Washington, D.C. concert, dubbed Stay Amped, that will benefit the gun-violence prevention groups Giffords and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund.

The concert will take place at Washington, D.C.’s the Anthem on March 23rd, one day before students fill the streets surrounding the Capitol as part of the March for Our Lives rally (Parkland students co-organized the rally.) Nearly 700 similar events around the nation will take place that day.

In addition to performances by Lizzo and BeBe Rexha, the concert will give a platform to Marjory Stoneman Douglas students and other guests.
