One Host Seemingly Suspended At Fox, Should Tucker Carlson Be Next?

“I mean, I love women, but they’re extremely primitive, they’re basic, they’re not that hard to understand. And one of the things they hate more than anything is weakness in a man.” – Fox Host, Tucker Carlson

The following comment about Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN-5) has reportedly led to the suspension of a popular conservative weekend commentator.

“Think about this, she’s not getting this anti-Israel sentiment doctrine from the Democrat party, so if it’s not rooted in the party, where is she getting it from? Think about it. Omar wears a hijab, which according to the Quran 33:59 tells women to cover so they won’t get molested. Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law? Which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?”

According to CNN, Fox News responded to the outcry against the Islamophobic commentary by at least temporarily suspending Pirro:

“Jeanine Pirro, whose show did not air on Saturday night, was suspended by Fox News after her widely criticized commentary doubting Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s patriotism, according [to] a source familiar with the matter.

“Fox did not announce the suspension publicly. The network declined to confirm or deny that Pirro has been suspended. There is no word on whether Pirro’s show will return next week.”

The source would go on to say that Pirro had not been fired from the right-wing network. However, that did not stop President Donald Trump from weighing in on the matter through Twitter.

Several advertisers have distanced themselves from Pirro’s show, yet this isn’t the only controversy the network is currently dealing with.

Continued Controversy Surrounding Tucker Carlson

Tucker Carlson who has attempted in recent months to brand himself as an anti-agorism figure, despite his continued cultural conservative anti-immigration rhetoric. Yet, recent comments by the controversial figure bring into question the sincerity of his comments against the influence of big business on politics. From The Intercept:

Tucker Carlson, who recently branded himself as a leading anti-elitist, had previously labeled himself as an “out-of-the-closet elitist,” and separately said that he is “100 percent [Rupert Murdoch’s] bitch.” The two quips are part of a trove of newly unearthed recordings from 2008 to 2011 that haven’t previously been reported.

The comments were made on ‘The Bubba the Love Sponge Show’ several years ago. While contradictory to his previous declaration, his comments concerning the Chief Executive Officer of News Corp (Parent company of Fox News) Rupert Murdoch were the least of his worries over the past week. Media Matters for America the liberal media watchdog organization unearthed bigoted and questionable comments made by Carlson, which can be seen below.

Despite the nature of the remarks, Carlson took to his show and refused to apologize or show an understanding as to why they drew critique en masse, “First, Fox News is behind us as they have been since the very first toughness is a rare quality in a TV network, and we are grateful for that.” He began. “It’s pointless to try to explain how the words were spoken in jest, or taken out of context, or in any case bear no resemblance to what you actually think, or would want for the country.”

If that weren’t enough, Media Matters for America also released Tucker making misogynistic remarks about a range of women. The video including those remarks is below.

“I mean, I love women, but they’re extremely primitive, they’re basic, they’re not that hard to understand. And one of the things they hate more than anything is weakness in a man,” a 2007 statement summarizes his feelings towards women.

A Double Standard At Fox News?

Despite several advertisers leaving Carlson’s show and the continued backlash against him, it doesn’t seem that Fox News will take any action against him. However, they were quick to suspend Pirro after her remarks. The commentary at Fox News is often criticized for its divisive rhetoric and it’s illusions to white nationalism, yet by suspending Pirro and not Carlson adds another layer to their questionable working practices.

After the most recent sexual harassment scandal at Fox News which highlighted a toxic nature against women, giving Carlson a pass for his list of transgressions while suspending Pirro sends another troubling message.

Pirro earned her suspension, but the ongoing saga with Carlson has earned him some form of reprimand as well.
