Stupidity Is Killing Us
Stupidity Is Killing Us
When did America become so stupid?
There have recently been rallies at state capitols of “Liberate Michigan,” “Liberate Texas,” etc., which the president has fueled on Twitter. The rallies advocate for the end of lockdown and stay-at-home orders amidst one of the worst pandemics in recent history.
When people imbibe war propaganda, although more destructive, it does not signify the same degree as idiocy as today. There is more complexity at work – the destruction is remote and usually obfuscated by mainstream media. Whereas, in the coronavirus pandemic, neighbors, friends, family members and fellow citizens are dying right outside. But yet, the gun-toting ‘liberate’ protesters demand to be allowed to move freely and for businesses to open their doors, hastening coronavirus’s spread.
Just as America is exceptional in its 800,000+ cases of coronavirus, it is exceptional in staging these anti-lockdown protests against state governments. This is interesting. For when it comes to gun laws, education, abortion restrictions and voting, these same people are usually state rights advocates. But now, as they take their cues from the national commander-in-chief, they vilify state government.
“Liberate” protesters need to liberate themselves from the malignancy of Donald Trump. A reality tv president, with a second grade intellect, having such hypnotized, David Koresh-like adherents would be amusing if it were not so dangerous. These followers are willing to get themselves and their loved ones seriously ill, multiplying virus spread and death – all at the behest of a charlatan seeking re-election. Trump sycophants are so completely in his clutches that it would probably take a major personal disaster (like a family member’s death from coronavirus) for them to question their cultic devotion. Even then, one cannot be so sure that they’d come to their senses.
Directly because of the president’s anti-Americanism and subservient supporters, this pandemic will linger in the US with high rates of new cases and deaths. As Trump cajoles people to rally against governors’ stay-at-home orders, he remains at home, safe and healthy. He does not care about his militant, cult followers, nor any other Americans.
Neither Trump nor his followers are bright enough to realize that a careful and methodical reopening – ironically espoused by his own administration – is the best way for normalcy to return, the economy to reopen and for him to gain re-election.
But it’s America and now idiocy rules.
There is nothing new about idiocy, in the USA, or anywhere else. Half the people who vote (actually, probably more than half) sport an IQ of less than 100, and learned about as much in school as their kids are learning. They can’t begin to find Crimea on a world map (or even Ukraine). Of course, in the USA, idiocy has been beatified by the prez himself, who displays it daily in his persona of Tweety Don.
“Democracy is the theory that collective wisdom derives from individual ignorance.” — HL Mencken
Survival instinct equals sociopathic behavior. Exponential growth of stupidity plus fewer deadly natural selection forces due to technology. These three things are rarely discussed but are the three major destructive forces that can’t be fixed and will result in our total failure as a species and the end of the human race.
