An explosive device similar to a pipe bomb was reportedly found in George Soros’ Westchester mailbox Monday night, according to NBC News. Authorities haven’t determined if the device was operational, but it is reported to have contained an explosive powder.

The New York Times reported that the device did not explode on its own, but was instead “proactively detonated” by a bomb squad. The Times also reported that George Soros was not home at the time.

The device was discovered by an employee at Soros’ house who opened the package and then placed it in the woods.

The FBI has reported that there is no threat to public safety and that they are conducting an investigation at a residence in Bedford, NY which is where Soros lives.

George Soros’ is a billionaire philanthropist who often backs Democratic candidates and is the founder of the Open Society Foundations, which he has given $18 billion to. The foundation provides grants to help “build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people,” as stated on their website.

Soros is often vilified by right-wing groups because of his efforts with the Open Society Foundation and his financial support of Democratic candidates.
