Feel The Bern Is Back As Son & Step-Daughter of Bernie Sanders Step Into Politics

Bernie Sanders’ kids are stepping into politics, much to the delight of Bernie Sanders fans who may now “feel the Bern” for many years to come.

If you got caught up in the “feel the Bern” fever of 2017, now may be the time to rejoice as the son and step-daughter of Bernie Saunders are stepping into politics. Both politicians are planning campaigns around the same populist sentiments that catapulted Bernie Sanders into the national spotlight in the 2017 election.

Bernie’s wave of populism created a die hard fan base of Bernie Sanders fans that still persists. Fans coined the phrase and built a movement around “feel the Bern” somewhat akin to the “MAGA” movement and the populism that landed Donald Trump in the White House.

Bernie Sanders’ son, 48-year-old Levi Sanders, worked as a legal services analyst but just announced that he is running for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st District. The seat has been vacant since Democrat representative Carol Shea-Porter announced her retirement.

Levi Sanders sounds a lot like his dad. Does the “Feel The Bern” Movement have a new champion?

Levi’s motto sounds a lot like his fathers: “it is time to demand that we have a system which represents the 99 percent and not the 1 percent who have never had it so good.”

Like his father, Levi also advocates for universal healthcare and tuition-free public higher education.

“It is time to demand that we have a system which represents the 99% and not the 1% who have never had it so good,” Levi Sanders said. While Levi may get a boost in popularity due to his father, he will have to compete against other experienced politicians who have already collected and established funds for their campaigns.

Six other Democrats have entered the running with the top three fundraisers, Marine Corps veteran Maura Corby Sullivan, Executive Councillor Chris Pappas and state Representative Mark MacKenzie having already raised thousands of dollars for their campaigns.

During an interview, Sen Sanders said he was “very proud” of Levi’s commitment towards public service and years of work towards benefitting those who were of low income.

Bernie Sanders’ step-daughter announces run for Burlington mayor seat.

Sanders’ step-daughter Carina Driscoll meanwhile is running as an independent for mayor of Burlington, Vermont.

The 43-year-old Driscoll served on the Burlington City Council and the School board. She started her political career at the age of just 27 when she won election to the state legislature.  She and her husband also founded the Vermont Woodworking School.

When Driscoll announced her intentions to run, Sanders told the Burlington Free Press that “today is Carina’s day and her words and her ideas should be the focus, not anyone else’s.”

Driscoll’s campaign aims to bring a “‘people-led process’ back city government” and make it clear that “Burlington is not for sale.”
