The Stunning Bias in How CNN Covered Jim Jordan Accusations VS Keith Ellison

As part of my ongoing series at Citizen Truth, titled “Bias In The Media. An Expose,” we are going to examine how the mainstream media has covered recent scandals involving Republicans and Democrats.

Namely, we are going to focus on how CNN covered the scandals involving allegations against Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan versus how it has covered charges of abuse against Minnesota Democrat Rep. Keith Ellison.

A fact check video by The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Anders Hagstrom uncovered the bias with hard facts to make his case and what he found was astonishing.

“(Rep.) Jordan was accused on July 3 of knowing about a college wrestling doctor who was sexually abusing athletes but not doing anything about it,” Hagstorm said.

Rep. Jordan issued a denial quickly stating “Congressman Jordan never saw any abuse, never heard about any abuse, and never had any abuse reported to him during his time as a coach at Ohio State,” the statement from his office read. “He has not been contacted by investigators about the matter but will assist them in any way they ask, because if what is alleged is true, the victims deserve a full investigation and justice.”

“Within 10 hours of the accusation CNN had spent more than 25 on air minutes covering it. But then when the accusations were proven false on August 9, CNN only spared a single minute talking about it,” Hagstrom said.

He then compared how the accusations against Rep. Ellison were reported by CNN.

“(Rep.) Ellison is accused of actually committing domestic abuse against his ex-girlfriend and the accusations are as credible as any with three witnesses coming forward to say that they were told of the abuse after the relationship ended,” Hagstorm said. “The accusations surfaced on Aug. 12 and by two days later CNN had only devoted four minutes and 21 seconds to (Rep.) Ellison’s scandal. Less than one-fifth the time devoted to (Rep.) Jordan’s now defunct scandal.”

“CNN didn’t lie when they covered (Rep.) Jim Jordan and they didn’t lie when they covered (Rep.) Keith Ellison. But when you are claiming to be a non-partisan news organization, but you spend five fold as much time on a Republican scandal, compared to similar Democrat scandal there is an obvious bias,” Hagstrom said. “Either CNN needs to drop the façade and admit they are a liberal outlet or start reporting the news fairly.”

This reporter has hammered CNN anchors Chris Cuomo and Jake Tapper with questions about why the network is not covering the Rep. Ellison scandal the way it covered Rep. Jim Jordan for a week but has not gotten a response after my tweets got more than 1,000 retweets.

Some could say that perhaps Cuomo and Tapper did not see this reporter’s tweets to them. But they have responded to numerous tweets from me in the past. As a verified Twitter user there is a place on Twitter where they could, and the majority of verified users generally do, show only tweets from other verified users. It is unlikely that they have not seen them.

But it does not matter. Seeing, or not seeing, this reporter’s questions does not blind the network or its reporters from the facts of the case and the fact that they have not reported it in the same way it reports accusations against a Republican.

As Hagstrom said, CNN has to either admit, as MSNBC does, that it is a liberal news organization the way Fox News anchors admit that they are conservative, or it needs to start reporting the news fairly. You cannot complain that people call you fake news when the bias is blatant.
