It was an embarrassing day for Roseann Barr’s ex-husband Tom Arnold on Friday when he made a wild claim about former attorney for President Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, then couldn’t back the claim and then got raked over the coals by a CNN anchor.

Arnold started out by tweeting a photo of himself with Cohen with he caption “I Love New York.” The photo fueled speculation that Cohen was working with the notorious anti-President Trump actor. Speculation that Arnold embraced when contacted by NBC News.

“This dude has all the tapes — this dude has everything,” he told NBC News. “I say to Michael, ‘Guess what? We’re taking Trump down together,’ and he’s so tired he’s like, ‘OK,’ and his wife is like, ‘OK, f— Trump.’”

“We’ve been on the other side of the table and now we’re on the same side,” he said. “It’s on! I hope [Trump] sees the picture of me and Michael Cohen and it haunts his dreams.”

Many believed that Cohen had provided information to Arnold for his new show on Vice, scheduled to air in September, titled “The Hunt for the Trump Tapes.”

The assertion from Arnold that he was working with Cohen led to the actor being interviewed later in the day on CNN by Poppy Harlow who hammered Arnold with questions he could not, or would not, answer.

“I’m spending the weekend hanging out with Michael Cohen and there’s a lot going on,” he said, looking at the camera as if he was addressing President Trump. “You’ve disrespected him and his family, and there’s a lot going on.”

The interview got crazy after Harlow asked a relatively simple question of Arnold, that being whether or not Cohen told him that he planned to cooperate with the Robert Mueller investigation into the president.

“This is too important to me to eff around and you know the word I’m talking about. And we’re having fun with these Trump tapes, but this is serious to me and I’m not eff-ing around,” he said.

Harlow asked again, and Arnold sat in silence, just staring at her, until she asked him if he planned on telling America whatever Cohen tells him this weekend, to which he said “no.”

When Harlow pressed him, asking if he was just doing this for ratings for his new show, and asserting that, if what he has learned is important to America why would he wait until September to share it, he again could not answer.

After the interview Cohen set the record straight, claiming that he was not working with Arnold and that Arnold met him and asked for a selfie and that is all that happened.

“Appreciate @TomArnold kind words about me as a great father, husband and friend. This was a chance, public encounter in the hotel lobby where he asked for a selfie. Not spending the weekend together, did not discuss being on his show nor did we discuss @POTUS. #done #ridiculous,” Cohen wrote.

Arnold then used Cohen’s tweet to plug an appearance on MSNBC later that night. It now appears that Arnold has been caught playing the media for free air time to plug his show, and it worked like a charm.
