VIDEO: Waiting for Asylum in the US – Visiting a Migrant Shelter in Tucson, AZ
Citizen Truth Reporter Jenna Mulligan is traveling across the U.S.-Mexico border and reporting on immigration issues.
In the latest video, Jenna visits the Benedictine Monastery in Tucson, AZ. The church recently converted into a migrant shelter for immigrants and asylum seekers attempting to enter the United States.
The shelter holds about 400 asylum seekers and since it opened in January of 2019, the church has welcomed thousands of immigrants from Guatemala, Honduras and other countries through its doors.
Jenna also interviews Ali Hofer, a Catholic Community services coordinator at the Benedictine Monastery. Hofer discusses how the church takes in refugees that have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border.
