“Those of you calling for Stephen Miller to be fired by the White House because he has been revealed (again) to be a white supremacist do not understand that’s the reason why he was hired.”

Democratic leaders are calling for White House senior adviser Stephen Miller’s resignation after new evidence of his extreme white nationalist views was published by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SLPC) on Tuesday. Critics argue the evidence proves that Miller, the chief architect of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, is projecting his racist views into deliberately cruel policies.

“Stephen Miller, Trump’s architect of mass human rights abuses at the border (including child separation & detention camps w/ child fatalities) has been exposed as a bonafide white nationalist,” tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “He’s still at the White House shaping US immigration policy. Miller must resign.”

The SLPC’s investigative report is based on a collection of over 900 emails from 2015-2016 that showcase the relationship between Miller and the far-right website Breitbart. Miller, a staffer under then-Senator Jeff Sessions at the time, demonstrates an obsessive focus on race and immigrant related issues in the correspondence, mentioning the themes in more than 720 of the emails as he shares ideas and sources to influence the hard-right website’s 2016 election coverage.

Miller provides links to fringe white nationalist and anti-immigrant websites like VDare, American Renaissance, and Refugee Resettlement Watch to former Breitbart writer Katie McHugh in the emails, and praises the explicitly racist book “Camp of the Saints,” telling McHugh someone at Breitbart should write an article connecting its grotesque depiction of immigrants to the Pope’s pro-refugee rhetoric.

“Hatewatch was unable to find any examples of Miller writing sympathetically or even in neutral tones about any person who is nonwhite or foreign-born,” SPLC noted in the report.

The emails were provided to the SPLC by McHugh, who was fired by the website for anti-Muslim tweets in 2017 before renouncing the far-right movement. Other correspondents in Miller’s emails include former Trump adviser Steve Bannon and current Trump aide Julia Hahn, a reflection of the blatant white nationalist influence in the administration.

The 34-year old policy adviser is most famous for his role as the chief architect of the Trump administration’s child separation policy. Critics argue that the record number of children currently in detention is a product of Miller’s plot to use cruelty to deter future migrant flows. Numerous watchdogs have condemned the Trump administration’s treatment of migrant children as inhumane.

“Federal attorneys dared to go to court recently to argue that they weren’t obligated to provide them with soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bedding, and even food fit for human consumption,” explained the Nation’s Sasha Abramsky in September.

As Miller explained to US Customs and Border Protection officials, “My mantra has persistently been presenting aliens with multiple unsolvable dilemmas to impact their calculus for choosing to make the arduous journey to begin with.” Detractors argue that Miller’s mantra has resulted in thousands of traumatized children and an emboldened border-industrial complex that uses public funds for profit while providing inhumane conditions to migrants.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, who was criticized by conservative commentators as anti-semitic for calling Stephen Miller a white nationalist in April, argues the new evidence proves she was right and that Miller should resign immediately: “As I said earlier this year: Stephen Miller is a white nationalist. And now we have the emails to prove it. This type of racism and hatred has no place in our government. Miller needs to step down. Now.”

“Stephen Miller’s white nationalist views are a danger to the American people,” tweeted Sen. Bernie Sanders. “We are going to defeat this hateful administration and everything it stands for.”

Rep. Earl Blumenauer also said that Miller should be “fired immediately.”

Others, like Foreign Policy’s David Rothkopf, believe anyone expecting an apology from the White House is misguided:

“Those of you calling for Stephen Miller to be fired by the White House because he has been revealed (again) to be a white supremacist do not understand that’s the reason why he was hired.”

The White House responded to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) report in a statement, discrediting the organization while failing to address the hard evidence it provided in Tuesday’s report: “The SPLC, however, is an utterly-discredited, long-debunked far-left smear organization that has recently been forced — to its great humiliation — to issue a major retraction for other wholly-fabricated accusations. They libel, slander, and defame conservatives for a living.”

Wow. This sounds more like a Babylon Bee article than it does professional journalism. Oh, well, maybe you’re not a journalist? But what you are really good at is spinning tales and using word manipulation to get a point across…to anyone who will listen and obey. Fascist much?
