Interview Underlines The Importance Of Transparency In Journalism

Founder of The Young Turks, Cenk Uygur recently interviewed political writer Amanda Marcotte, who was known as one of the biggest critics of Bernie Sanders during the 2016 Democratic Primaries. Marcotte, made a number of contradictory statements during the interview — has garnered criticism and praise for her writings in the past. However, the presence of bloggers and commentators often cloud the line between subjective opinion and objective journalism.

In the digital era, many use social media platforms to receive their news, meaning subjective commentators can spread their message — whether it is accurate or not. Unfortunately, legacy outlets like CNN also publish subjective material without disclosing their conflicts of interest and their desire to limit the influence of independent media.

The following video discusses Uygur’s interview with Marcotte and the importance of ethics and transparency in journalism.
