Pop superstar Kanye West has had a busy weekend. It started with a controversial, and awkward, appearance on “Saturday Night Live” but by Sunday it took a more drastic turn as he called to legalize slavery again.

The “Gold Digger” signer took the stage on Saturday for the season premiere of SNL with a performance that was downright baffling.

Kanye, who did the show to replace Ariana Grande, who cancelled after the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and who is currently dating SNL cast member Pete Davidson, came out for his first performance of the night dressed as a giant Perrier water bottle to perform “I Love It.” He was accompanied by rapper Lil Pump, who was also dressed as a water bottle, and behind them was Adele Givens on a big screen with hands and a cell phone protruding from it.

He followed that performance with another to end the show where he wore a MAGA hat to perform Ghost Town alongside Kid Cudi singing “We Got Love.”

The donning of the MAGA hat, a trademark of President Donald Trump was met with scorn from many cast members and some in the audience even booed.

West said, in part of his monologue that was cut by directors, “They bullied me backstage. They said, ‘don’t go out there with that hat on. They bullied me backstage. They bullied me! And then they say I’m in a sunken place,” he said. “You want to see the sunken place? Okay, I’ma listen to ya’ll now — or I’ma put my Superman cape on, cuz this means you can’t tell me what to do. Follow your heart and stop following your mind. That’s how we’re controlled. That’s how we’re programmed. If you want the world to move forward, try love.”

But on Sunday even those who supported him started to question what he was doing. In a post on Twitter, West, again wearing a MAGA hat, wrote “This represents good and America becoming whole again. We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America to create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment.” Then he added “Message sent with love.”

West followed that tweet with an explanation stating “the 13th Amendment is slavery in disguise meaning it never ended We are the solution that heals.”

It is tough to see how abolishing the Amendment that made slavery illegal is going to fix what he thinks needs fixing.
