Special Coronavirus Town Hall for Kids & Parents To Be Hosted By CNN & Sesame Street

CNN is partnering with “Sesame Street” for a special town hall this Saturday at 9 a.m. ET to focus on educating kids and parents about coronavirus.

The 90-minute program is entitled “The ABC’s of Covid 19: A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Parents” and will tackle issues about “the new normal” we’re living in during the pandemic, including education, anxiety, screen time and playdates.

Along with experts on the subjects, there will be appearances from beloved characters from the PBS TV show “Sesame Street” — including Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Rosita and Grover. All of them will answer questions submitted by families.

Big Bird himself will join CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta and CNN anchor and national correspondent Erica Hill to moderate the event.

“Sesame Street” has been a staple on PBS for fifty years and has always been an entertaining yet educational program for children. The show has certainly tackled social issues in the past, such as racism and death. It has won over 180 Emmy Awards and several Grammy Awards, more than any other children’s show.

This isn’t the first collaboration from CNN and “Sesame Street” focusing on coronavirus either — earlier this month, “Sesame Street: Elmo’s Playdate” aired across all WarnerMedia’s television networks, including HBO, HBO Latino, TBS, TNT, truTV, Cartoon Network and Boomerang. The program highlighted how to practice social distancing and the roles of EMTs and doctors in helping us during the pandemic.

Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organization behind the show, also launched its Caring for Each Other initiative, which provides “ideas to help your family find ways to breathe, laugh, and play together” during the pandemic.

Everyone has been affected by coronavirus and children are no exception. Most governments around the world have temporarily closed educational institutions in an attempt to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Several states in the U.S. have also recently decided that classes will cease altogether for the rest of this academic school year as well. Overall, nationwide closures are impacting over 91% of the world’s student population.

With millions of people out of work or working from home due to social distancing, it has created a new challenge for families everywhere to adapt to this new temporary lifestyle.

“The ABC’s of Covid 19: A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Parents” will air on CNN, CNN International and CNN en Español. It will stream live for subscribers on CNN.com’s homepage and across mobile devices via CNN’s apps. You can also watch on on CNNgo, and subscribers to cable/satellite systems can watch it on-demand.
